Race before 1800: Opening Session! Reading Group on Vanita Seth’s “Origins of Racism”

When: Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2:30-3:30

Where: Hybrid event, location and Zoom link TBD

What: We’ll be reading Vanita Seth’s “The Origins of Racism: A Critique of the History of Ideas” History and Theory 59.3 (2020):343-368. You can find the document here

The hope is to bring together all our interdisciplinary knowledge and have a stimulating conversation about how to talk about race in the premodern world. We’ll be able to get a lot of our pressing questions out into the open in this first meeting and set the stage for our future conversations.
